BMW Motorcycle Parts:

- Kickstart transmission - 1981-on Airheads

This is a 1982 factory built kick-start gearbox.

Since selling my R65 I no longer own an Airhead that will accept this gearbox, so it is surplus to me. Would be great for someone with a GS.

Both the casting marks and the serial number date this gearbox to 1982, meaning that it came from the factory WITH the circlip on the output shaft, so there are no worries there.
Also, the serial number begins with the digits ZSA, indicating that it was assembled at the factory with the kick-start components.

This gearbox was most recently used in a 1986 R65 and was working flawlessly. Shifting well and running smoothly.
The oil drain was clear and there was very little fuzz on the plug with no hard/sharp bits. I left the fuzz on the plug for the new owner to inspect before installation.

Splines are in good condition, especially for the age of the gearbox. There is a little bit of wear, but the box shifted well without grabbing and there still is plenty of meat as seen in the clear photos that I took of the splines after cleaning them. They were recoated with Moly-60 grease to protect them after cleaning & photos.

All flanges and mounting tabs/ears are in excellent condition, and the transmission will be crated before being boxed to protect them.  Or feel free to arrange to come and pick it up if you are nearby.

Just to buy the additional parts for the kick-start would cost over $750, plus the additional labor cost of having them installed and anything else that might be found once they get inside. This gearbox is sound and ready to install, and you will still have your existing gearbox as a spare or which can be sold to offset the cost.

Asking $950 for this fully assembled and good running kickstart gearbox.

Shipping will be actual costs only including insurance (required). Thanks!
