Services & Products offered for your Airhead BMW motorcycle
In addition to offering electrical upgrades for your Airhead BMW motorcycle from 1970-1995, I also have some products that I have designed. I will be adding more of them as I refine them for release to the public.
Stainless Steel Battery Hold-down Brackets:
We manufacture 304 Stainless Steel battery hold-down brackets for the older Airhead model BMW motorcycles!
Does your battery hold down bracket look like this (or worse)?
Tired of your old bracket rusting and getting covered with acidic white residue? (That residue can vibrate off and start rust in other areas of the bike as well...) This is the answer!
No more scraping/sanding/repainting. No more harassment or embarrassment from your buddies when you open the seat and they see this gleaming gem on top of your battery.
(This photo shows the version for the twin-shock Airhead bikes w/7.04" tall sealed battery installed)
Made from 11-gauge (0.12") thick 304 stainless steel, laser cut to precisely match the contour of the original parts. Slightly thinner than the stock bracket but just as strong due to solid plate construction, this allows sufficient clearance for the toolbox above the battery when installing the slightly taller SLA/AGM batteries that are becoming so popular for these bikes. Also, being flat stock rather than a U-shaped channel, there is no tendency for the bracket to wear into the bottom of the battery box the way the narrow ridges of the stock bracket do.
The metal-jacketed Odyssey PC925L battery shown above in a 1982 R100 is the tallest battery that I know of for our bikes; the metal jacket adds almost 1/8" to the installed height of the battery (7.04" tall) vs. the standard version. As you can see, this bracket still allows enough thread engagement to securely clamp the battery down. [btw - unless you plan to seriously abuse it, you do not need the metal-jacketed version of this battery. It is what was in stock locally...]
Versions available for both the earlier twin-shock battery boxes (1970-1984), and the later Monoshock frame battery boxes (1985-1995). You can even convert to this more secure system on your Monoshock bike if you have the smaller size battery with the "rubber band" retainers that stretch out, crack, etc... To convert you will also need to purchase the side spokes and nuts, part numbers available upon request.
(below photo shows the later monoshock battery clamp)
Attractive, functional, and zero maintenance; all for only $25.00. What more could you want?
Please visit the Ordering Information page if you would like to purchase one of these brackets.
Electrical Upgrades/Modifications
As many know, the weakest link for the older BMWs seems to be the electrical system. This situation gets worse as our bikes age and dirt/corrosion attacks the connectors. I offer several services and products to help either get the most from your current charging system, or to even upgrade your bike to a modern brushless solid-state charging system with up to 80% higher charging capacity.
I will be adding more details here as I continue to update my website, or feel free to contact me to discuss your needs.
