R100GS For Sale - "Binky" Lives!!!
SALE PENDING...
I spent the summer rescuing this bike
from the second owner who had partially disassembled it and then lost interest
in the project...
He was going to sell it as a parts
bike, but I saw the hidden potential and had always wanted my own Airhead GS.

I have owned and worked on my own
Airhead BMW motorcycles since 1989. I put a lot of time and care into
rebuilding this bike expecting to keep it as my own. With less than 18,000
miles on the clock I knew there was still lots of life left in this bike!
I even tracked down the original
owner and found out that this bike has been officially dubbed, "Binky".
Work to rehab this bike included:
-
Pulling the transmission to install all new seals and the circlip repair needed for the approx. 1986-1994 Airheads.
-
Rebuilding the carburetors.
-
Servicing the exhaust threads/nuts.
-
Rebuilding the forks.
-
Servicing the steering bearings, swingarm bearings,
paralever pivots.
-
Servicing connections in the wiring harness and routing
wires correctly.
-
Solid mounts for diode board & servicing of all electrical
connections in charging system.
-
Stripping/cleaning/rehabbing the front brake system.
-
Rebuilt the fuel petcocks, new strainers, new external fuel
filters, and tank "flapectomy".
-
and then putting it all back together...
I am happy to
report that "Binky" is once again to be counted
amongst the living, breathing family of BMW motorcycles!
She still needs a new set of tires, and has a couple of small
cosmetic dings, but she starts and runs smoothly and goes
down the road just fine!
UNFORTUNATELY.... my bad knees combined with the tall seat
height makes me a bit unstable when stopped.
Not wanting to have
one of the knees bend backwards or sideways on me again, I believe that
discretion is the better part of valor,
and I need to offer
this fine bike up to someone with stronger knees than myself...

The Known Issues:
-
Baby needs a new set of shoes... (the tires are both old and
dry.)
-
The bash guards have lived up to their name and have a few
dings. (Hey, this was actually used as a GS...)
-
So too, the underside of the valve covers are not pristine...
-
The bottom of the left fork leg has a couple of scratches in
the yellow paint as well.
-
The seat cover may not be original. Not sure on this one, as I
am not an expert on the GS's...
-
There look to be a few pits in the top of the fuel tank that
are below the paint, not sure how that one happened, it came to me like this.
-
One of the hand guards has a crack and I use a zip-tie to hold
it on. I have a set of good condition white ones that can go with if
desired.
-
The plug wires should probably be replaced, but you were going to buy the dual-plug coils anyway, right???
Overall, a well running, stable,
good looking & FUN bike.
I just wish that I had the
stability in my knees to hold it up when it isn't rolling...
Asking $5,000 obo
Considering the low mileage and recent work that
has been done, I think that is a fair starting point.
Feel free to contact me with questions or to
arrange a time to come test drive it.
I am willing to pick you up at the Milwaukee
airport for a fly/ride purchase if you desire.
Be sure to look at all the photos of the bike in the gallery below!
Thanks for looking!

In the background is one of "Binky's" stable-mates, a 1986 R65
monolever with Pichler Uni-4 fairing dubbed "Betty" by my better half.
